Finally! Assassin's Creed confirmed for 360 [update 1]
Admitting to one of the worst-kept secrets in recent memory, Ubisoft has finally confirmed Assassin's Creed for Xbox 360 in both Electronic Gaming Monthly and 360 Magazine.Unfortunately, not much else is revealed, such as a release date or platform-specific content. Most of all, we want to know why they waited to confirm the Xbox 360 version, even though we all knew it was coming. As a developer and publisher, it would be the smartest decision to promote all iterations of the title. Was it to instigate hype, as 1UP's Luke Smith conjectures, or were there even more sinister deals being made behind the scenes?
Assassin's Creed is also coming out for PC and PlayStation 3.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
[Update: In a press release, Ubisoft has announced that the Xbox 360 version will launch in early 2007 alongside the PS3 version.
GameSpot also has a Q&A with Producer Jade Raymond that sidesteps important questions, such as "why deny the 360 version?" and instead opts for the more generic lead-ins. Assassin's Creed has high-def visuals, audio, and Xbox Achievements? O, thank you, Captain Obvious!]

Since an official annoucement is expected tomorrow according to 360mag, Sept 1 fits well as a date when Sony's announcement of exclusivity (not PC) ends.
I knew this would happen, but I really wanted AC to be one of the main reasons to get a PS3.
Embassy @ Sep 1st 2006 1:58AM
its probably some contractual issue...maybe the guys at MS had'nt signed some finalization paperwok or something on the deal etc etc..
cuz it wud suck to announce a 360 version..then months later have to detract that statement...that wud really put a dent in Ubi's PR...better safe than sony...i mean..sorry...:p
cap-n-crunch @ Sep 1st 2006 2:00AM
yesss...I'm 500 dollars richer!
logikil @ Sep 1st 2006 2:15AM
Wow, big surprise here.
non_believer @ Sep 1st 2006 2:06AM
I still don't believe it.....I bet it's still gonna be exclusive to the PS3, atleast in the beginning. Unless microsoft paid yet another company big money to bring a badass title to their system (stealing the big names from sony).
Drake Lake @ Sep 1st 2006 2:08AM
You two and the more to come...
Why the hell do you care if it's exclusive or not?
Pirateguy @ Sep 1st 2006 2:25AM
Ubisoft is smart. Its almost a financial blunder if they ignored the X360 crowd.
Judd @ Sep 1st 2006 2:14AM
I clicked this link when it was under the "Assassin Creed coming to PC, not 360" comment page.

I did see the story there but IGN couldn't let me read the story. I checked back later and they took the story off the page.

I sense a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of fanboys cried out in terror, and then silence.

playstation still got enough exclusives to remain strong. metal gear solid, devil may cry,god of war, final fantasy, kingdom hearts.this is only a minor setback.

oh sweet look at all those highly orginal titles........................................................................................................
Will @ Sep 1st 2006 2:46AM
It's not like sequels don't sell!
I'm going to lean on the PS3 having the best version of the 3... but I wouldn't be too suprised if the PC version surpasses it.
Wild Homes @ Sep 1st 2006 7:27AM
it's hilarious to believe anyone actually thought this wouldn't happen, fanboys aside, because we all know how fanboys and logic get along. with the cash reserve situation (Sony is widely reported to be sitting on about six billion) and the fact that the PS3 launch is going to lose them another billion or two (depends largely on how many they push out the door before the new manufacturing process is viable) it just didn't make sense for Sony to throw money away at a title that Ubisoft really can't afford to send to just one-next console. relax, Sony fans, you've still got Lair.
logikil @ Sep 1st 2006 2:55AM
Masi,
I'll give you MGS, FF, and KH. Devil May Cry though...ehhh i wonder. Dead Rising has done wonderful, and wil only do better once released in other territories. Lost Planet will almost certainly do well if just based on how great the demo ended up. So you have two Capcom games that are pretty much guaranteed hits on the 360. With that in your face, and the popularity of DMC, what would really stop them from going 360 with it? Also keep an eye on Square. Project Silpheed may ust surprise both Square and the rest of us and have them rethinking their stance. Plus they are already leaning on the side of Multiplatform Development.
Chris sux @ Sep 1st 2006 3:11AM
360 and ps3 games will look the same...it is all about how the game is developed.
I love how the Fony fanboys tout these amazing graphics the PS3 has when all they've seen are cutscenes...HAHA. Perfect example is Killzone...HA! What morons.
nothing dude @ Sep 1st 2006 3:19AM
of course they'd release assasins creed for 360. There gonna have to milk the distribution of that game cause of the developement costs. thats the price you pay for developing for the PS3.
dauthi @ Sep 1st 2006 3:36AM
Well, it's going to look exactly the same on 360 and PS3... Only difference is the price tag now, bye bye exclusivity... Though, it was pretty obvious Ubisoft wanted to make money and were going to take this route.
Enigma @ Sep 1st 2006 3:40AM
"of course they'd release assasins creed for 360. There gonna have to milk the distribution of that game cause of the developement costs. thats the price you pay for developing for the PS3."
Yes, because the 360 is sooo cheap with the first to have $60 DVD rom games as a "norm".
Bladev1 @ Sep 1st 2006 9:16AM
We all knew it was going to happen, but being a 360 owner the announcement still sends shivers down my spine. Hey at least you guys still have Riiiiidge Racer
James @ Sep 1st 2006 3:43AM
I think PS3 will have slight graphical superiority given enough time and the talent of the programmers. With so many multiplatform games, it's all up to the consumers on whether to go with one platform or two or all three. The way Sony has marketed PS3, they should have stuck to marketing it to gamers and not a do-it-all machine.
Farkman @ Sep 1st 2006 4:06AM
Considering they were gonna put this on the PC anyway, it's logical to bring it to the 360 as well. I've spoken to a lot of game programmers, and they are all BFF with the Xbox because it's much easier to program for. The 360 is slightly more complicated but it's the same general thing. Coding for a PS2/PS3 is a whole other animal according to these fellas.
Also, I second cap-n-crunch's note on being 500 dollars richer.
Eggman @ Sep 1st 2006 4:16AM
I don't know why all these sony fanboys keep claiming the ps3 will have better graphics when almost every (non biased) report i've read online supports the fact that both consoles are pretty much the same. Both ps3 and 360 have strengths and weaknesses of their own and are both difficult to program for.
looking at it from another perspective, the 360 version could be better just cause capcom has quite a bit of experience already programming for it already (they've been hitting the 360 pretty hard with titles) and i think this is something everyone can agree on from past history, graphics get better as developers become more attuned to the hardware. Regardless, I dont care much for graphics and would imagine both versions of the game come out looking about equal.
The PC version will probably edge out both these on a tricked out setup. However, the cost ratio between that type of a pc and either console would be susbstantial.
Anyway, personally glad this game will be coming to the 360. This definetly looks like a must have game although all we have so far is a trailer and a few screenshots. One less reason nagging me for buying a ps3 (just can't justify the price tag yet, will get one a few years from now).
deaftly @ Sep 1st 2006 4:29AM
haha the 200th stake in the ps3's coffin
Gamer G @ Sep 1st 2006 4:41AM
The is such good news as it was the only title on the horizon for the PS3 I really fancied. Now I can get it on 360 I can cancel my preorder and spend the £500 it would have leat cost me on going skiing in the alps for Christmas!
Happy Dayz!!
ipodfanboy @ Sep 1st 2006 4:32AM
damn what about the wii, imagine playing assassians creed using the wiimote, that would be crazy. IF anything i hope ubisoft makes the next prince of persia a wii exclusive.
Macca @ Sep 1st 2006 4:43AM
Of course the ps3 will be more powerful than the 360, it would be stupid to think it isnt. The ps3 is coming out a year later, for $200 more so its logical it will be more powerful.
Meddow @ Sep 1st 2006 4:45AM
More 360 love, now wheres my wii version!
Eggman @ Sep 1st 2006 5:16AM
@ 25, The reason ps3 is more expensive than the 360 is blu ray, hdmi and a bigger HDD. The specs have actually been the same since last year (the graphics card, processor, etc). The ONLY reason it was delayed was because blu ray wasn't ready and hdmi 1.3 or w/e wasn't finalized.
PS3 is still what it was last year minus a boomrang, few ethernet ports, an hdmi slot, vibration, etc. The only thing i think they've added since 360 launch is the motion controls but that doesn't help graphics anyway.
Gamer G @ Sep 1st 2006 8:43AM
just because it is coming out a year later does not mean it is more powerfull, both the Cell and the RSX for instance pre date the 360's chips its just that they have been waiting for the blu ray to catch up
Lutraphobic @ Sep 1st 2006 7:11AM
YES! No more reason to buy a ps3 for me! That extra money can be used to upgrade my PC now. Huzzah.
dsub @ Sep 1st 2006 9:00AM
perhaps they were in talks with sony to make it exclusive and the deal fell through. Or they pulled out of the talks because they figured the game could be more profitable by going cross-platform?
Kevin @ Sep 1st 2006 7:47AM
Well, IGN fixed their link and guess what? Simultaneous release on both the 360 and PS3!
Wild Homes @ Sep 1st 2006 7:27AM
I wish I could upgrade my PC, but I'm haunted by the shadows of two monsters: Vista and DirectX10. it's a shame, I'd really _like_ a 7900, too. can't justify it with such a sea change just around the corner.
Pedro Van Faulk @ Sep 1st 2006 7:46AM
So, does this mean that the best PS3 game of E3 2K6 is mow the best 360 game?
saboola @ Sep 1st 2006 7:50AM
pwned
Dave @ Sep 1st 2006 8:11AM
The official press release states that the 360 and PS3 version will launch at the same time.
So after being first announced as a 360 game, Ubi called it a PS3 game for a while, and now is coming clean and calling it a simultaneous 360/PS3 game with a PC release as well.
Strangest behavior I've ever seen. Sony must have backed out of paying for a time exclusive. Why else would they bother with this little game, only to come clean in September (not helping the PS3 at all)? Must have had negotiations ongoing until recently.
subnet6 @ Sep 1st 2006 8:12AM
There are several titles that I was really looking forward to on PS3. Assassins Creed was at the top.
This certainly won't kill the PS3 but I also don't think this is the last exclusivity surprise to come down the pipe prior to the PS3s launch. I'll still be watching Motorstorm, Warhawk, and Lair, for sure. I would say this helps the 360 more than it hurts the PS3.
I have to chuckle at the fanboys on the last article about Creed NOT coming to 360, though I don't care about them enough to go back to that post to see who they are. They know who they are and they are crying inside right now. Fanboys crying. It makes me feel warm inside.
Also, whoever was lamenting that MS was "stealing" these titles from sony should get a grip. Many of these franchises were born on Nintendo systems. Nobody STOLE them back then and nobody is stealing them now. Yes MS has lots of money and can buy titles, but so what. Developers and publishers are in a BUSINESS. They have every right to go where the money is.
Mark @ Sep 1st 2006 8:16AM
(Sony is widely reported to be sitting on about six billion) umm not sure were you got your info at. Sony just borrowed 650 million from a bank. if they have billions..why are they borrowing?
Mark @ Sep 1st 2006 8:17AM
www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...G9Q&refer=asia (loan)
Quotes:
Sony Corp., the world's second- largest consumer electronics maker, said it took out an 80 billion yen ($698 million) syndicated loan last week, its first bank borrowing in 10 years, to diversify funding sources.
The company also has more than 513 billion yen outstanding in corporate bonds as of March 31, including 250 billion yen in convertible bonds sold in 2003.
6 billion my arse. I hear many a fanboy crying tonight
saboola @ Sep 1st 2006 8:25AM
LOL Sony sitting on six billion... and I guess Kutaragi also has a money bin like Scrooge McDuck that he jumps into for his daily "they can get a second job if they want it bad enough" swim. You fanboys are hilarious. Did Sony clame to ever love you or even like you? They like your money, for sure, but I am pretty sure they could care less if you die in a fire.
logikil @ Sep 1st 2006 8:40AM
Actually there was a recent article regarding whether the PS3 could save Sony (and for the love of me i can't find the link) that discusses the cash reserves of both Sony and MS. Basically it indicates that Sony has cash reserves at around 6 Billion with MS at somewhere in the range of 38 Billion. I realy don't think its unheard of for a company to borrow money despite a cash reserve.
Gamer G @ Sep 1st 2006 8:43AM
It would not be cash reserve if they started spending it! Its probably tied up in long term government bonds and stuff
Awesome @ Sep 1st 2006 11:17AM
Well I am truly happy to see my Xbox 360 getting the love. As for the Wii version of this game. Sorry to say Nintendo Fans but the Wii just isnt powerful enough for the game in its current incarnation. Maybe they could release a game custom for the Wii with Assassins Creed elements or maybe a Side Story of Assassins Creed for the Wii. Regardless though it wont have the pretty visuals that are making everyone drool.
This is an exciting time to be an Xbox 360 owner. I now have to many games for my available time. (WHICH IS A GOOD THING.)
No reason to buy a PS3 now for me.
Tim @ Sep 1st 2006 9:11AM
Poor Sony.
Jake @ Sep 1st 2006 10:05AM
The best hyped PS3 game just became one of the better hyped 360 games. This is another reason for me to not regret waiting an additional year for next gen gaming. 360 FTW. (oh yeah, and Wii)
Uber Soldat @ Sep 1st 2006 9:06AM
Ummm, is the 360 version going to have 'Reeeaall Time Weapon Changing' and giant crabs or is that just the PS3 version? ;p
Lone Starr @ Sep 1st 2006 9:14AM
Oh snap, here come the Joystiq financial analysts.
Wild Homes @ Sep 1st 2006 9:14AM
it was the article in Wired that pointed to the six billion dollar reserve. and like Logikil added, it's not like businesses only take out loans when they have no money. y'all need to think less literally, yo.
Scaught @ Sep 1st 2006 9:42AM
So if this comes out as $59.99 for the 360 and PS3 and only $49.99 for the PC, then I will raise some hell.
